Now that I’m breastfeeding a newborn around the clock, I need to drink more than ever before! Since my baby depends solely on my breast milk for her nutritional needs, I need to make sure that I build an adequate milk supply as well as stay hydrated to keep my own body healthy and functioning at its best. Life with a baby in the mix can be unpredictable at best, so it can be easy to forget about staying hydrated. I wanted to share a few tips (and a new product that I discovered!) that have really helped me stay on top of my hydration needs and have also really helped me recover quickly so I can be at my best even while juggling life with two little ones!
Carry a water bottle. I will fill up a large water bottle (mine is 28 oz) with water first thing in the morning and make sure that I drink 4 full bottles a day — one by 10am, another by 2pm, a third bottle by dinnertime, and my last one before I go to bed at night. With the water bottle, I know exactly how much water I’m getting (or not getting as is the case sometimes!) and can catch up if necessary.
Turbo charge with a hydration powder. I discovered the Drip Drop Hydration Powder towards the end of my pregnancy as I also needed to make sure I was well hydrated to provide enough fluid for my growing babe in utero. While picking up a few last-minute baby supplies at CVS, I noticed the DripDrop Hydration Powders and was drawn to the fact that the product hydrated 34% more effectively than plain water alone.
Created by a physician at the Mayo Clinic, the powder has been endorsed by the World Health Organization, the American Medical Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics as a hydration solution. The DripDrop Hydration Powder is even safe for kids over 1 year old so I felt comfortable knowing that this was a safe product for me to put in my body!
I love that these hydration packs are so easy to take along with me wherever I go! I keep a box in my diaper bag and will oftentimes add a pack to my water as I notice I’m starting to get dehydrated while I’m out running errands. DripDrop has a precise ratio of ingredients and electrolytes that activate hydration, much better than any sports drink out there and definitely without all the sugar and additives that are in other alternatives. (DripDrop has no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives!)
