Let’s start off by saying that MAC Studio Finish Concealer changed my life. Up until that point, I had used numerous concealers ranging from high end to drugstore. Nothing had worked. Ever since I found MAC Studio Finish concealer, MAC has always had a special place in my heart. When I heard that they were releasing a new concealer, I immediately wanted to try this out and see if it would be my new “holy grail” concealer.
Mini Application and Review Video:
Note, I filmed this video on my third time of wearing this concealer. This third time was actually the instance when I felt like the results didn’t look as bad. While the results of the concealer at the end of the day may be a bit hard to see in the video, the pictures show it all. My under-eye area never looked so bad!
No concealer vs. concealer difference:
Freshly applied concealer does cover a mediocre job
of covering dark circles,
and product already settling into fine lines.
End result after 10 hours of wear:
Concealer starting to dry out on my skin and
becomes very noticeable in the inner half of lower eyelid.
Coloring: I was able to stick to the same color in this concealer as I normally use. My MAC Studio Finish Concealer is in NW20 and I used NW20 in my trial runs here.
Application: The concealer is medium-weight: it’s not nearly as heavy as the Studio Finish concealer but not as thin as the Select Moisturecover concealer. It’s right there in between. Only a little bit of product is needed when applying as it does spread out quite a bit and doesn’t layer on very nicely. I made the mistake the first day of using this concealer and using too much. I ended up going over my under-eye area in multiple layers and unfortunately the settling and caking of the concealer at the end of the day was much worse. Use the concealer very sparingly as a little goes a very long way. In the picture above, I also primed first with Stila Moisturizing Primer. Maybe a different primer would work better…
Coverage: From Figure 1 (like how I’m being all textbook-y? ^_^), you can see that the concealer does cover my dark circles, but it’s mediocre at best. You can still see my dark circles under the concealer. While I took extra precautions to make sure that the product was applied smoothly, there is still significant settling into the fine lines under my eye within 10 minutes of applying the product!
Longwearing: The product claims that it can last for 15 hours. On me, after 10 hours the product had already bit the dust on my skin. My eye area felt very dry and I could see the concealer almost separating itself from my skin to form little rough patches. There was no way this concealer was lasting 15 hours on my skin.
FINAL VERDICT: D
- medium-weight coverage – may be nice on hot summer days
- quick to set
- instantly settles into fine lines and creases
- minimal coverage of dark circles
- does not last – starts to look very cakey and dry
This product was a failure in my book. Just looking at the concealer on my face made me feel uncomfortable and like I had aged another 5 years. I will definitely not be wearing this concealer again!
Hope this review helps!
