I decided to try the belted scarf look today! I’ve seen look quite a lot this season and really love how it adds a bit of variety to a normal everyday look. This belt was actually a little on the short side, but I love the ruffles and the mix of brown colors so I wore it anyways. Let me know if you’ve tried this belted scarf look as I love getting inspiration from all you fashionistas out there as well! Email me a picture and if I get enough I’ll put up a compilation post featuring all of you guys! ^_^
I was also recently tagged by Jessy of The Little Dust Princess to do a 5 New Year’s Resolutions post. I will keep these resolutions unrelated to my blog as I have another blog-centric resolution post already scheduled for Friend Friday going up on New Year’s Eve.
5 New Year’s Resolutions (non blog-related):
- Learn how to cook 5 Chinese dishes. I go to my parents’ house for dinner every Sunday (my parents recently moved to Dallas from Taiwan in September). My mom is an amazing cook and I’m determined to take advantage of the fact that they live in town now to learn how to cook some authentic Chinese food!
- Stick to a $300/month clothing budget. I’m currently spending about $450/month, so I’ll need to learn how to cut down and not be tempted by the pretty things I see in the store. This one will be tough for me, but I’ll be documenting it in my blog so hopefully this will keep me accountable!
- Learn how to scuba dive. The bf and I bought a Groupon deal to become scuba certified in 10 lessons. This is something we’ve casually discussed doing for awhile, but it wasn’t until we talked with a friend about his recent scuba diving trip off the coast of Belize that we finally decided to get over our fears and learn how to scuba for ourselves!
- Have a date night once a week. This is another reason why I need to decrease my shopping expenses. The bf and I currently only do a date night maybe once a month. Even though I’m perfectly happy just staying home, I know that he really enjoys going out so we will now make it a point to go out once a week to do something fun!
- Pay someone a compliment once a day. I love getting compliments as it means that someone is actually noticing me or something that I’m doing. And everyone needs something to feel good about everyday. I’m going to make a special effort to pay attention to people more and offer sincere genuine compliments at least once a day.
And now, my turn to tag 5 more lovely ladies!

What a great look – the scarf & belt technique. I love the neutral colours…and the weather sure looks nice and cool out there!
Great resolutions! I thought $300/month was a lot until I read that you spend $450/month now. LOL It's a great start and I really hope you achieve it! I love #5 … and it's not just a compliment – doing a good deed for someone at least once a day really makes you feel special. : )

I can't reel the skirt is from F21. This retailer continues to amaze me with their stuff.
I like your resolutions, having a date night is good. You will be surprised that it is hard to make time for your sweetheart when so many things going around either from work or family.

Kileen, you wear earth tones so wonderfully. Love all the browns, beiges, and burgundys. The scarf is really cute worn that way. Have you tried just draping it around your neck without the extra loop? The ends would hang longer that way.
Great New Year's resolutions. I haven't thought about mine much, but it'll probably be another year of "eating healthier and working out" haha.
Michelle says
The skirt fits you so well! I love the touch of red in the belt and tights. Great combination!
Thanks for the tag! This will be the first time I actually document resolutions! I can definitely agree with your #2 & 4!

^^^whoops, I meant to write:
I like the look of belted scarf, but I prefer it longer and wider, as seen here on Olivia Palermo
Maybe you can unravel the part around your neck.
kileen says
@AubreyOhDang! looking back, i agree that it would look a lot better longer and wider. i'll have to keep that in mind for next time! thank you so much for the tip. 🙂

I'm loving your red tights! I'm slow in getting into that despite have a plethora of colored tights. I think the belted scarf look works well on you! =)
PetiteLittleGirl says
Very nice outfit, Kileen! This look is new to me. I have to try it myself. I am loving your skirt. Is it current?
kileen says
@PetiteLittleGirl unfortunately the skirt is old — over 3 years. do let me know if you try out the look! i need to make another attempt as well with the tips from my readers today. 🙂
SewPetiteGal says
I LOVE the burgundy tights with this outfit! And I may have to join you on your #2 resolution 🙂 How did you determine a good number for your budget?
kileen says
@SewPetiteGal figuring out the right number is like figuring out the right number of calories to lose weight, LOL. i just took a look at my current spending, looked at the items i was buying, and thought about which items i could've done without. as with all goals, i want the budget to be something realistic that i felt confident about reaching. $300 seemed like a reasonable enough number where i could still allow myself to buy things, enjoy shopping, and not feel deprived. also, as i've been blogging more, i have more ideas as far as how i can remix existing items in my wardrobe so i won't feel compelled to go shopping as much.
hope this helps!

Woot woot! I love your spin on the belted scarf look! Chiccc! Hehe I've tried it a few weeks ago too (sending it to you right now :P). And I have yet to make my NY resolutions, but paying someone a compliment once a day is a good one!

LOVE your color pallet! I love that you matched your tights and belt instead of tights and shoes, such an unexpected surprise! And great job on belting the scarf! Still trying to master that one.

Wonderful resolutions! How about a makeup budget? HEhehe!
kileen says
@April oh, yes. a makeup budget was on my list this year! $50/month. i'm happy that i actually met this goal!! 😀
kimmie says
Dang, girl! $450 a month? No wonder you always dress like a million bucks. 🙂
kileen says
@kimmie i know. i spend way too much. 🙁 i gotta start cutting back now!!
Vicky says
Kileen, so sorry I missed your recent posts. Just saw that i got tagged on the New Year's resolution as well. 🙂 I'll make sure I come up with a list before the new year. I really like your last resolution. I think it's very sweet of you to make that one of your resolutions because you will surely make someone feel really good about themselves. (although if you count the comments you give to bloggers everyday, you are already doing that. :))
Again, LOVE your tights!
PetiteXXS says
I really like all your resolutions! In fact, I recently suggested to hubby that we start our own date night tradition. We both love staying at home but now it's gotten to the point that we rarely go out together anymore, so it would be a nice change. Also then I'll get a chance to wear all the clothes I've been buying recently, since I still only wear scrubs to work 🙂
Three Times Friday says
I love this oufit, and your belted scarf in particular! I've been playing around but haven't quite figured out how to pull off belting a scarf yet. The color of the tights is also gorgeous!
