My favorite part about this milkmaid braid look is that it gets all your hair up off your neck and out of your face — perfect now that the weather is warming up and humidity is kicking in! What’s more, music-festival season is in full swing and this is a great boho look that will get you rocking out in style. I’ve personally made it to 5 big music festivals in my past and can’t wait for the day that we can take Dylan out to enjoy it with us!
Herbal Essences is running a contest where you can Instagram a picture of your festival-inspired hair and win $1000! Just ‘gram your pic, follow @HerbalEssences, and tag with #HerbalEssences. Then enter your post here! Contest ends May 15. See official rules for details. Check out their Twitter for more style inspirations!
Thanks so much for watching my tutorial and let me know how you style your hair for the hot weather!

Thanks for the video Kileen. Unfortunately my hair is stick straight and won't hold a curl. Even my elastics fall off my hair! Sometimes I even have to use two hair ties or wrap the hair tie around my ponytail four times to get it to stay in place! I think when my hair gets longer I can try this style! 🙂

You should try using dry shampoo to add some texture to your hair, even when it's freshly washed! My hair is naturally very silky and fine so it's hard to get any style to stay. The dry shampoo gives hair a little bit of grip without adding weight. Try it out!

Ooh thanks Kileen!!! I will definitely try this tip out. I have used baby powder before to disguise oily roots and that has helped a little but I never used it on freshly washed hair! Will you be doing a tutorial on curling your hair?
Kileen says
Yes, I'll do a tutorial! Gotta figure out a new filming area but stay tuned for it soon! 🙂

This is such a cute look! It could be used for a causal day or dressed up too! Love it!

Finally got around to watching this video. Does the Herbal Essence dry shampoo leave a white film in your hair? I've been wanting to try it. I noticed the Batiste one leaves a white/gray film in my hair.
Kileen says
No white film! I can't stand the ones that do as it turns my hair gray! This one doesn't change my hair color at all thank goodness.
Candice says
Thanks, Kileen. Yes, i can't stand the ones that leave my hair gray, which is why I switched to Batiste's dry shampoo for dark hair. I can't wait to try the Herbal Essence dry shampoo.
Kileen says
I tried first with a little trial / travel size bottle of the dry shampoo! maybe check to see if you can find a small size in case you don't like it. 🙂

Hi Candice, I used a bunch of the Herbal Essences dry shampoo this morning and noticed it does leave a slight bit of whiteness. I rubbed it into my hair so it wasn't noticeable anymore but thought you'd want to know!
Candice says
Hi Kileen,
Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it. I guess all dry shampoos will leave some kind of white/gray cast since it's a powder. I'll just have to really rub it in so it's not noticeable. ^_^ Have a great weekend.

The Suave dry shampoo is my other go-to and I find that the white powder bad with that one. I think as long as I keep the can moving and don't focus the spray in one spot it's not too bad. I put a bunch on in one area this morning with the Herbal Essences one which is a bit different than what I normally do. Hope that helps!

I've tried this before and it just hasn't been… successful. I think my arms get tired.
Kileen says
Agreed, it does get a bit tiring!
