It still feels like summer around here but the countdown has started for preparing for back to school — we’re only 2 weeks out! Our schedules have gotten pretty lax over the past few weeks so I’ve had to switch gears and start getting back in the school mindset. It’s a time of change for parents and kids alike so to help ease into the start of the new school year, I’m sharing 5 tips that I’ve started implementing myself to get us all ready for the big first day!
-
Adjust bedtimes / wake times
The longer summer days have meant that the kids have slowly started going to bed later than usual. For us, we’re adjusting our schedule back by about an hour in the evenings so I’m having the kids reset over the next week or so. It means that we’re having to cut short our post-dinner play time so that we can all get in bed earlier but I’m also hoping that the new schedule will help me get to work earlier too!
-
Stock up on lunch essentials
Similarly, I need to get into the swing of packing lunches everyday and need to make sure our fridge is well-stocked! I have a list of about 15 different items that I rotate through when it comes to what I pack in the kids’ lunches and they’re all pretty easy to make ahead and time and store in the fridge for a couple days. This year, I’m also having Dylan start packing his own lunch as part of his nightly routine. I’m hoping this will help him learn to make good decisions when it comes to food and I’m all about delegating tasks / making my kids more independent whenever possible!
-
Visit the school ahead of time
There are usually some first-day nerves so I usually take the kids to visit their school a couple days beforehand just so they can get a little more familiar with where they’ll be going. It’s nice to also have the campus to ourselves without the craziness of other kids / parents and I let my kids just run around and play for a bit.
-
Go through memorable previous-year pictures
My kids love looking through pictures and I usually will bring up some fun ones from their previous school year just to help them remember the good times they had. I find that it helps get them excited to see their friends again and gives them something to look forward to! I find that it also gets them thinking about school more and it helps start other conversations that they’re thinking about when it comes to going back to school.
-
Take a closet inventory
And of course, the closet! The start of the school year is a good time to clean out clothes that are too small and to see if there are any holes that need to be filled. Now is the time to take advantage of back-to-school sales to score some great deals! OshKosh B’gosh has been one of my favorite brands since the kids were little. I just love their classic style and unbeatable workmanship that allow their pieces to still look like new even after the daily wear-and-tear as well as constant washing. I’ve mentioned before, but my kids have strong preferences when it comes to their style and thank goodness OshKosh B’gosh has outfits that they each love!
Dylan is all about the comfy pull-on pants so I was happy to see these in a fun minty green color. He’s actually in-between sizes at the moment but I love that these pants have a roll-tab cuff that can be undone and allow them to convert into longer pants for when he gets taller!
And of course, my little “cat lady” Mei. I knew Mei would love this outfit the instant I saw it and she was happy as could be dressed head-to-toe in cats!
Dylan was in need of a jacket and how cute is this navy bomber one on him? He even remarked how comfortable it was when he put it on and that pop of lime green lining was right up his alley too! The buttons are an easy snap closure that he can do himself and I have no doubt the quilted style will keep him warm well into our mild Texas winters.
Right now, OshKosh B’gosh is running a special code Back-To-School promotion and you can save 20% off $40+ purchase using code OKBG3352! Locate a store near you!
The best part of shopping with OshKosh B’gosh is that you can give back! The B’gosh Jeanius Campaign was started in 2014 as an annual effort to support local communities with donated clothing and school supply needs. Since then, OshKosh B’gosh has partnered with DonorsChoose.org, Delivering Good, OshKosh Moms, and families / friends to collect over $1.1 million as well as distribute over 66,000 articles of clothing. It’s made an impact to over 260,000 students!
Join the effort by donating a new pair of jeans in-store or making a cash contribution in-store or online at oshkosh.com/bgoshjeanius from now until September 18! Share you “shop to give style” on social media using #BgoshJeanius!
