I love a good pencil skirt and J.Crew's are by far my fave (I have 5 and counting now...).  They're not too tight, not too loose, and have a timeless classic appeal.  I've gone so far as paying $70+ for one of these skirts (ridiculous, I know!) so when I saw this coral one on sale for $40 at the outlets this past weekend, it was a done deal.

Pencil skirt, welcome to my closet.  You'll find all your friends there already.

Readers, how many pencil skirts do you have?  Who makes your favorite pencil skirt?

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan of J.Crew's pencil skirts - at least not their basic summer ones. The material's not that soft and it's much harder to move around in them than, say, Banana Republic. Thoughts?

I only have 1 Banana Republic skirt and it's a bit thicker and stiffer than my J.Crew ones actually. I'll have to check their more recent styles -- it's been awhile! Another brand I like for pencil skirts is LOFT. Their skirts are really well made and fit petite frames well too.

This combo is so classy and fun too! I have to confess I got into pencil skirts about a year ago, I mean how could I survived without them before, now I have so many and would be happy to welcome more into my life!

This is without a doubt a very timeless look! I have all of the elements and I never thought to mix them together! I'm gonna have to steal this! ;-) Love the leopard belt with the red skirt! I don't own any J. Crew skirts, but I have a hard time sizing them. But that is mostly because all of mine are thrifted.

Such a pretty color and silhouette on you, Kileen!

I only have a handful of pencil skirts, and have found the j.crew ones to be too long and boxy, so I've never bought any. Do you have to hem all of yours? My two favorite ones are from the Banana outlet and really stretchy and comfy, but I've found that pencil skirts look best with heels, and since I rarely wear heels these days, I've been wearing more a-line or circle skirts with flat sandals.

I find that the J.Crew pencil skirts in 00P fit pretty well (this one that I bought from the outlet is actually just 00 regular so it'll need a bit of hemming unfortunately). BR ones fit really well as do LOFT in 00P.

I do agree that pencil skirts look best with heels. Something just looks off when wearing flats with a pencil skirt. When I'm in flats, I also opt for the A-line or circle skirt.
