Review: Fresh Faces Mineral Foundation + Blush

This is part two of my review of Fresh Faces mineral makeup.  If you missed part one, check out my review of several Fresh Faces mineral eyeshadows.  This part of the review will be focusing on Fresh Faces mineral foundation and blush.

First, I'll show you a picture of my face without a stitch of foundation (be prepared!):

IMG_7690.jpg
No foundation at all!  Notice the redness on the sides of my nose and the freckles.
My overall complexion is decent but I do have a smattering of freckles and sunspots around my nose and cheeks.  My sides of my nose also tend to be a little red.  I usually go for more lightweight coverage when it comes to foundation and try to find something that evens out the redness around my nose as well as covers the freckles around my cheeks.

I picked out the Fresh Faces Sheer Glow foundation in Neutral Light Sheer and it seemed to match my skintone pretty well!

After Fresh Faces Neutral Light Sheer foundation applied with MAC 181 SE brush (over Stila Hydrating Primer)
I'm usually a pressed powder fan (previously I swore by Stila Illuminating Powder Foundation in 30 Watts) and this is my first time with a loose mineral powder foundation.  I've been using this foundation consistently now for the past 3 weeks, so I think I've figured out what works for me.

I have very dry skin, so I always will prepare my face with a very moisturizing primer, Stila Hydrating Primer (my tried and true for >1 year now!)  I also tried out a few different brushes when applying the foundation and had good luck with both my MAC 188 small duo fibre brush as well as the MAC 181 SE mini kabuki brush.  The MAC 188 duo fiber brush I've found gives a more sheer application and you can swirl the brush to create an "air-brushed" effect.  For the picture above, I used the MAC 181 SE brush as I've found that it applies a little more product for more coverage and just used a "swirl, tap, buff" technique that I've seen for mineral products (thank you, Bare Escentuals infomercials!).

I then added some blush:

I love a soft pink blush for the spring/summer and First Kiss Blush is absolutely perfect!  The color shows up as a soft glow and almost like it's lit from within.  I applied the blush using the Fresh Faces Chisel Powder Foundation Brush and the natural fibers distribute the color very evenly and smoothly.  The brush did shed quite a bit during the first week of use (as the website had warned), but since then I haven't had any problems with it.

Before + After:
beforeafter.jpg
We don't need to talk about the before.  In the after though, the foundation really evened out my skin tone and the blush gives a nice flush to the cheeks!
Overall:  I was really impressed with the foundation.  It's extremely buildable and I was able to cover my freckles almost completely without it looking cakey.  I found that after about 20 minutes after applying the foundation, it did end up looking a little more "dewy" with some oxidation.   I did find that with the foundation didn't last more than about 6 hours though, but I was also running around outside in almost 100 degree weather all day.  My suggestion would be to bring some for touch-up if necessary.

The combination of the foundation and blush is amazing, in my opinion.  The blush really sits nicely on top of the foundation and gives the overall look a very finished appearance.  This powder + blush foundation is definitely going to be my new summer go-to!

Oh, and for those wondering about shades, I'm a MAC NC20 for reference.  :)

Fresh Faces is offering my readers 20% off their purchases through the end of July with code CUTEANDLITTLE20!!  Don't pass up this opportunity to try out this amazing new mineral makeup line.  It's free shipping too at $50!

I love light chiffon skirts for the summertime.  Give me one with pleats and I'm doubly happy!  This was my outfit for Memorial Day.  I thought about going completely patriotic and rocking the red, white, and blue, but then decided I should save all the fanfare for the Fourth of July.  Fireworks just make that holiday 10 times better in my mind.  :)

Now show me your patriotism (or not) and link-up your outfit below and join the Color Brigade!

Goodness!  Please excuse the puffy eyes and tired smiles.  This is what spending hours underwater for scuba practice will do to you.  Of course, it's all worth it.  :)

As for my outfit, I wanted to change it up a little.  This strapless hot pink dress is usually a little too flashy to wear in the daytime, but I decided to dress it down by layering this lacy top over it.  It actually looks like I just draped a bit ol' doily over myself and belted it, doesn't it?  I guess whether or not you're a fan of doilies, I do think it totally made the outfit.  Score +1 for the doily!

Oh, and looking at these pictures, I don't think these shoes really went with the rest of the outfit -- the cork just throws it off a bit.  Lesson learned.

We're having one scorcher of a weekend! Temperatures have already climbed over 100 degrees and it's time to break out the t-shirts and short shorts.  This was my post-scuba for running errands around town in preparation for my Africa trip on Friday.  I was able to find a pair of shorts to wear on safari as well as get a thermal shirt to wear for those chilly 40 degree nights where I'll be camping in a little tent.  I'm super excited for Africa and have even started learning some Swahili here and there (should I be worried that "cheetah" is the first common Swahili word they recommend that you learn?)

I bought this skirt over 3 years ago and this is the first time I've worn it.  I love everything about the skirt -- the taupey color, the bubble hem, and the waist sash -- but somehow never could figure out an outfit with it.

Last night when going through my closet, I decided that today was going to be the day that this skirt was worn.  I ended up taking almost an hour to figure out what you're seeing me wear today.  An hour!!  Adrian was already sound asleep and I was sitting on my closet floor in a heap of exhausted frustration.  I'm still not really sure I like the end result of this outfit, but I do like that it's something different.  And I succeeded in styling this previously unstyle-able skirt!

What is this?!  Pants 2 days in a row?  Whoa.

I'm not a pants girl, so this is a big deal.  I saw these pants at Forever 21 a couple weeks ago and it was the last size 24.  Even though they weren't expensive to begin with at $22.80, I found a small tear in the side seam and was able to get another 10% knocked off since they were considered damaged.  I kinda felt like an asian mom in the making, asking for more discounts on something that're already cheap.  But hey, I do have my mom to thank for all my good negotiating skillz (and yes, my skillz are good enough to be spelled with a 'z').  Why not save when you can, right?

And Friday is finally upon us!!  Adrian and I are planning to go out to Clear Springs Scuba Park this weekend to complete our open water scuba certification.  I can't wait to do a real dive and see some fishies!

    Review: Fresh Faces Mineral Eyeshadow

Almost a month ago, I received some cosmetics from a new mineral makeup company called Fresh Faces. I was really excited to try out the products after learning that they contained no organic ingredients like plant extracts or oil that could clog up my pores.

I've been using the Fresh Faces mineral eyeshadows now for about a month and have been nothing short of impressed with them. (I held off on trying the foundation as I didn't want to risk a breakout before my wedding.) I'm so happy to share a review of my thoughts on their mineral eyeshadows!

    freshfaces
    my Fresh Faces product shipment
I ordered the Neutral Light Sheer Foundation (that's the big tub on the top left), the Sheer Glow powder, a lot of their eyeshadows (including a few eyeshadow samples in the bags on the right), a blush powder, and finally a powder brush.

This review is just going to focus on my experience with the eyeshadows as I have not had enough time to fully test out the foundation yet.  For starters, here are some swatches:

    freshfaces swatches

    freshfaces swatches

I love the color payoff of these eyeshadows and their vibrancy when applied.  Most of the eyeshadows that I ordered have a slight shimmer to it that really catches the light when on your eye.  The one matte eyeshadow I ordered is Stone Khakis, which is my new favorite highlight shadow.  The eyeshadows are very easy to apply and lasted me all day!  I used a MAC paint pot as a base on my eyelid and did not have any problems with creasing or settling into fine lines.

Here are some close-up pictures of my most recent look using a few of these colors:

    Colors Used:
    Eyelid:  Copper Beach
    Contrast:  Fools Gold
    Crease:  Bermuda Party
    Highlight:  Stone Khakis
Base: MAC Paintpot in Groundwork (eyelid), Soft Ochre (brow bone)
    Eyeliner:  MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
Mascara:  Shiseido Mascara Base + Maybelline One By One Mascara

I definitely recommend Fresh Faces eyeshadows and hope to show you a few more eye looks too that I create along the way with their products!  I've been a long-time MAC lover but have actually switched over to using these eyeshadows exclusively for the past month now!  This is pretty huge news.  :)
