The H&M opened in Dallas at the Northpark Mall this past Thursday and I, of course, had to go to the grand opening! The new 24,000 square foot store is an absolute heaven for those who love H&M -- the first floor is filled with women's clothing while the second floor has the men's and children's items. I definitely took my time browsing through all the women's clothing as they had many of the fall items that I had seen of several other bloggers already.
I went into the dressing room with 15 items to try {yup, a new record for me}. There were only a few items that looked somewhat decent, so I decided to take some dressing room pictures for anyone else interested in some of H&M's recent items.

I love richly colored skirts so when I saw this beautiful mustard skirt on the shelves I had to try it. At first I thought it was supposed to be a midi skirt but after looking at the catalog picture, it's apparently supposed to be knee-length and I'm just super short {it goes down almost to my mid-calf}. For those of you who have longer legs than me might find it more flattering. The waist is very tiny {I had to seriously suck in, especially since I was tucking in a poofy-ish top} and the material is very soft and warm. The price is a bit higher, but I could definitely see it as being a well-worn skirt ideal for the colder months.

The next item I saw was this lace overlay blouse. I absolutely love lace this season and the overlay pattern is absolutely beautiful. The blouse also comes in black and powder beige {see beige on Jean} and I was so excited to try it on. Unfortunately the blouse looked too boxy on me on its own and when tucked in {see in skirt review above}, it was way too poofy and created a weird effect on the skirt too that made me feel like I had a food baby pooch. The sleeves were also a little long on me as well as I would've preferred if it ended right below my elbow. Sadly this was a no-go for me.

Lace Overlay Shift Dress ($34.95):
Yet another item to satiate my lace obsession. I love the pattern but found that the dress was a little loose on me, especially in the waist area. For me, I would've preferred something more fitted so I also passed on this. But, see it on Annie in her recent review -- looks gorgeous on her!

I actually walked out of the store with just a pair of black dress shorts {see on Wendy} but after trying it on again at home I decided it's going back to the store as I decided it wasn't flattering enough on me and my chunky thighs. I was actually really surprised to not have ended up buying anything from H&M, but Annie did recently pick up the orange swing blazer for me. I actually just wore it yesterday while spending my day walking around San Francisco {I'm here this weekend for a wedding}, so look out for it in my next outfit post!

H&M doesn't seem to be as petite friendly as I thought it would be. But, I suggest trying some of their accessories. You can't beat the prices, and they have some awesome stuff.
Oh that's very true. Great suggestion!

I love that mustard pleated skirt! Even if it's not the "right" length on you, I think it looks wonderful on you.
I love the mustard skirt and am dying to check it out in H&M. Oooh, and I can't wait until the orange swing jacket ootd!
Thanks! I love the color and was a bit torn on it too.

So sad you couldn't find anything! You win and you loose some!
I'm going to the states in October to try and find some cute stuff... So excited. I hope I have some luck.

I Can Be Many Things
I have been contemplating that mustard skirt and taking up the hem for weeks now but it's just too spendy plus alterations! I like the style and color. How funny- the navy lace dress may fit differently than the cream- Sydney also tried on the navy one and it was too big but my cream one is decent! I'm going to try belting it:)
I love these fitting room posts- helps out a lot!
good job passing on these items Kileen. I agree w/most of your reasoning.
I can't believe you braved the crowd to go there....I was there the night before it opened and the line for the private party was insane....We should figure out how to get our group invited to the opening of the one at Willowbend. :)
