1. What’s your favorite drug store makeup product and your favorite
higher-end product?
Drugstore: Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume (the one in the orange tube). Best. Mascara. Ever. I have very typical Asian lashes that are stick straight and point downwards. Here is my process for my lashes everyday in case you guys are wondering:
- Curl with a Shiseido Lash Curler. This curler fits my eyes perfectly and curls my lashes with ever crimping them.
- Prime with Shiseido Mascara Base. This primer is dark (the white-colored ones weird me out) and really helps make any mascara that I layer over it work that much better!
- Two coats of Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume. This mascara really helps volume my lashes without making them lose any curl or look clumpy. I also never have had any problems with flaking. Totally worth the $8!
High-End: Dior Capture Totale One Essential. I received a sample of this product from Allure back in September of last year. The sample lasted me about the month and it totally transformed my skin. I reviewed the product for Allure and somehow ended up winning a Dior makeup session where I was able to get a $25 gift card for myself and my friends to use (check out the DFW Blogger meetup pictures!). I ended up buying another full-size bottle of this stuff and am absolutely loving the results!
2. Is there one type of product that is your go-to, can’t live without?
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline. I have typical small Asian eyes and without eyeliner, I end up looking really tired. I love this eyeliner for the dark black line that it provides and the fact that I can draw a really nicely winged cat-eye. And, my eyeliner stays put all day long. Even through a sweaty yoga session. You heard that right.
3. What’s the best hair product you’ve ever used?
My best hair product isn’t really something I put in my hair but more a tool I use for my hair. It’s the Sedu 1″ Pro Ionic Ceramic Flat Iron. This straightener makes my hair actually look like it’s naturally straight. It actually makes my hair much more manageable and tames all the frizzies. I didn’t use it this morning (pushed snooze on my alarm clock one too many times) and I was fighting some serious flyaways all day long…
4. Fess up, what’s the worst beauty look you’ve tried to rock and look back at now with a little shame or apprehension that you actually did that?
When I first got into makeup, I tried a few adventurous looks which included a rainbow eyeshadow look once. Although they were super fun looks to pull off at the time, I wince when I think back to those days as it’s definitely too crazy for me now!
5. When it comes to beauty products, we all use the same basic
products. What do you use that helps show off your personal flare and personality?
I really love glittery gloss. Like, the kind with all the sparkly bits in it. Some of my fave drugstore lip glosses were from back in the day when this trend was in like Maybelline Wet Shine Lip Gloss in Pink Diamonds and L’Oreal Glam Shine Diva Lip Gloss. Even though they’re no longer available in stores, I still buy them online. It’s the girly girl in me. 🙂

I love the chambray shirt paired with the black. I did the same sort of thing the other day but I wore a black skirt instead; looked sort of school girl now that I think about it… Perhaps not the best look. I prefer yours!
Funny that you reviewed make-up as I just posted something similar. 🙂 Great minds…?
You look adorb.

I've never heard of mascara primer! Well, I hardly wear mascara because my eyes seem to feel tired when I wear them (that's probably purely psychological haha!) and they get in my eyes and contacts and so on. Once in a while, I do but I never heard of primer. I gotta get into makeup more.
On this subject, do you ever use a bronzer? How does one use that? And can you recommend a good powder blush?
eclecticflair says
I love the shiseido eyelash curler! I'm so intrigued by that dior skin product now!

Kileen Cheng says
omg, bronzer is probably my second favorite product! i can't live without
it. my current bronzer is actually a discontinued MAC Sculpt and Shape
powder duo that they released a few years ago. but i also have the Nars
Laguna bronzer which is ok if I just apply very lightly. and i swear by the
MAC 168 contoured angle brush for application. hope that helps!
Kileen Cheng says
I would suggest getting a sample of it at the Dior counter. it basically
works as a serum booster so apply it right after you cleanse your face.
anything you put on afterwards will just work better. i apply a whitening
moisturizing serum that I bought from 99 Ranch called Mandom Beauty Barrier
Repair Baby Moist Milk (reviewed here:
http://cutenlittle.wpengine.com/2010/10/japanese-skincare-haircare-haul-mini.html)
and then follow it up with moisturizer. i do this both morning and night
and the results are amazing!

love your pin girl!! it adds a nice touch to your outfit!! and i def have a shiseido lash curler and love it!!
Rinny says
I love how you added the flower pin to your outfit! And I completely agree with you that Shiseido curler + mascara base = best combo ever! Although I didn't really like Lashblast – I much prefer Maybelline's Colossal Volum'Express 🙂

LOVE the wet shine in pink diamonds! I use that, too!
Also, I adore your metallic belt and big flower! They dress up your outfit so much.
Kileen Cheng says
oh wow, what a coincidence that we both use the same gloss! i love this
stuff. if only they still sold it in drugstores. where do you end up
buying yours from?
Kimberly Parham says
True story, I bought five last February (like a year ago). My friend gave me
hers, because she didn't like it. And I went out and bought more, because I
wanted to stock up for my purse, car, desk, and two for safe keeping in the
collection. I only have 1 full one and a half tube left. 🙁
Kileen Cheng says
booo. ok, i bought a couple tubes several years ago and am now down to half
a tube. let's hope i find something just as nice once this tube runs out!
Kimberly Parham says
You're a MAC girl, aren't you?
Dazzle glasses are similarish, aren't they? I've heard that in reviews, but
I've never tried them.
Kileen Cheng says
yeah, i guess that's true. i haven't tried the Dazzleglasses. it's just so
much more expensive than these little Maybelline tubes! i'll have to see if
i can track any down. i haven't been looking at makeup lately in an effort
to save money. 🙂
May says
The flower is always so girly. I love it. It's little things that make the outfit!
The cover girl mascara is the one I aaaaalways use (aside from the fact that I absolutely adore Drew Barrymore in their commercials :P). One of my friends actually got me the MAC blacktrack about a year ago, it's an amazing product.

Hi Kileen – Love the outfit. I love me some denim and black pants…. cute touch with the flower… again – I am going to copy you. 🙂 I have one question. Which brush do you use to apply the eyeliner? I have that eyeliner and I can't seem to find a brush I like. Thanks!
Kileen Cheng says
yay, i'm so glad to inspire you with my outfit! copy away, girl!
as for my eyeliner, I use the MAC 263 brush. i don't think it's available
at department store counters, but it should be available in the
free-standing stores. hope that helps! 🙂

I'm so loving this outfit..it's very simple, but still CHIC!! I love the way you put the flower on the shirt…that really changed the shirt up some a gave a little more edge than just your basic chambray shirt…I LOVE IT!!
