A New Coat and Skinnies

Picture taken in the shade.  I look so much darker!  :)

So here's crazy Texas weather again.  The temperatures were back in the low 70s after they dropped down to the 40s for Thanksgiving!  It's still chilly in the mornings and evenings though, and being the wuss that I am, anything under 60 has me breaking out the winter coat.  :)

I found this military-inspired coat at Forever 21 this past Black Friday weekend and I'm super in love with it.  The button details down the front, the way the collar creates a little tunnel around the neck, and the puffed sleeves around the shoulders -- everything about this jacket is love.  After looking at these pictures, I'm thinking that it needs a bit of alterations though.  Maybe take up the sleeves 1" or so as well as take in some fabric around the middle area (make the princess seams a little larger).  What do you guys think?

Another one of my finds this weekend was these skinnies from Urban Outfitters.  I was actually about to walk out of the store when a girl held up these pants to her friend and commented on how cute they were.  I sneaked a peek and agreed that it was definitely worth a try!  The pant legs looked so slim and short that it actually looked promising as far as fit went!  After finding the last pair of 24's, I went in for a try.  Lo and behold, these jeans fit beautifully!  They were the perfect length (26" inseam!) , had no waist gap, and were just the perfect amount of tightness around the leg.  I quickly purchased and skipped all the way home happy with my new find.  I checked out the style online (cause sometimes the website has it on sale!) and noticed that the jeans on the model look like they're supposed to be worn as crops!
Oh well, these are going as regular length jeans for me.  ^_^

What do you guys think of my recent finds?

Furry In The City

Forever 21 Sleeveless Fur Vest - S
Express Gray Shirt - XS (similar here)
J. Brand 10" Skinny Jeans in Gypsy - 23  (bought off Gilt Groupe)
Aldo Black Suede Pumps - 5 (similar here)

The boyfriend and I just got back from watching Burlesque.  Great movie for those of you who haven't seen it and love Christina Aguilera!  We had a little date night tonight as he was out of town visiting his family over Thanksgiving break.  My faux fur garnered quite a few looks at the movie theater, but I was quite happy to be rocking one of my latest Black Friday finds.  I loved wearing this vest and it actually felt like I was all snuggled up next to a teddy bear the entire time I was watching the movie!  ^_^

I'm gonna keep the post short tonight and get me some extra sleep.  Hopefully that'll make the Monday grind after this long break a bit easier.  And to end on a higher note, let the Christmas countdown begin!

Playing With Color

Charlotte Russe Beaded Pailette Cardigan - S
Banana Republic Layered Ruffle Skirt - 00P (similar here)
Urban Outfitters Kimchi Blue Bow Belt - S
We Love Colors Maroon Tights - S
Guess Mary Jane Pumps - 5.5 (similar here)
Forever 21 Bangles (similar here)
Forever 21 Flower Earrings

Hooray for color!!  After having slept for 14 hours the day before to recover from my Black Friday escapades, I needed something to jolt my senses and get me back into the swing of things.  I think these maroon tights did the trick!

Here's a brief recap of my shopping shenanigans for the past two days:

"Midnight Madness" at my local outlet was indeed madness.  I had checked the specials ahead of time and noticed that certain stores were actually opening early at 10pm.  So after our hot pot Thanksgiving feast, my mom and I headed out to the outlets, game plan in hand.  We braved the 35F weather and waited outside the Gap in this line for about 15 minutes.  Once inside the stores, the crowds weren't terrible and I love being able to browse racks that are correctly sized and sift through tables where the clothes are still folded and in nicely organized piles.  The smallest sizes are usually still available and are just sitting at the front of the rack waiting for you to try them on.  This is probably the main reason I love to shop as the early bird.  That, and the fact that I'm not waiting 30 minutes in line to check out.  My mom and I shopped until midnight and I was happy to take home my $25 worth of spoils

I then slept until 6:30am, at which point I scurried over to my local mall to hit up the doorbuster specials at my fave stores.  After making an initial round through the entire mall (I hit up Gap, BR, Urban Outfitters, Ann Taylor, and Express), I actually hadn't found a single thing worth buying.  Needless to say, it was a bit disappointing.  I then decided to join the throng of people waiting outside Forever 21 to see what I could find there.  Although Forever 21 didn't have much in terms of actual Black Friday specials, I appreciate the fact that they get new inventory in daily so I always have new items to pick through whenever I stop in (which is at least once a week!).  Needless to say, I found lots of items to my liking (I did pick up two fur pieces!) and ended up leaving $94 poorer.

And after a nice two-hour nap in the afternoon, followed by a solid 12 hours of sleep later, I'm finally starting to feel back to normal again.  And while I did miss the traditional Thanksgiving fixings this year, I'm eternally grateful to hot pot for not giving me a whole week of the same leftovers.

Hope everyone's having a glorious weekend!  ^_^

Black Friday Haul Sneak Peak...

I shopped til I dropped.  I spent most of today recovering from my shopping escapades so I don't have an outfit post for you, but here's a mini preview of my Black Friday spoils:

I might pick up a few most things come Cyber Monday...  Stay tuned for a haul post soon!  ^_^

My Favorite Holiday

Old Navy Faux Fur Hoodie - XS (very old)
Tulle Double Breasted Coat in Eggplant - XS * (bought off Ideeli)
J. Brand 10" Skinny Jeans in Gypsy - 23 * (bought off Gilt Groupe)
Charlotte Russe Strappy Boots -6
Thanksgiving is all about great food and great company, but it's a delicate balance of being comfortable and still looking stylish.  Not to mention the fact that I had plans to hit the outlet mall afterwards in 40-degree weather and rain!

The decision was hard, but here's are the pieces I picked out and why:
  • a forgiving pair of jeggings - to accomodate for the potential food baby
  • a cable knit faux-fur zip up hoodie - to protect my ears from the cold!
  • a pair of faux leather knee-high boots -  faux leather ain't scared of rain
  • a thick military-style jacket -- gotta layer up and stay on trend  :)
And now I'm off to spend some quality time with the family and have my inaugural pot of shabu shabu for the year!

* Fit Notes:
Tulle Double Breasted Coat: Not recommended for petites as it was big all over.  I had to hem the sleeves and add larger princess seams in the back as it was way too wide.
J. Brand 10" Skinny Jeans  Too long for shorter petites (I need a 25" inseam for skinnies) -- hemmed 2".  Great fit otherwise!

[EDIT]: Since I received a few questions about the fit of these J. Brand Jeans, I thought it'd be helpful to include a picture of the backside.  Note that I had to really increase the brightness of these pictures in order for the stitching to show up against the black fabric, so please excuse the quality of this last picture!

Taylor Swift Inspired

Victoria's Secret Sweaterdress - XS (similar here)
Steve Madden Caryssa Platform Pumps - 5.5 (also shown here and here)
The Limited Blush Bobbie Ring

Happy Turkey Day!!  In honor of my favorite holiday, I decided to rock some Taylor Swift inspired hair.  Except I just realized that Taylor Swift has changed her hair and has now gone straight.  Just when I thought I was on trend with my hair finally...  ^_^

I hope everyone is getting their eat on.  As for me, I actually have two eating invitations for the day.  The first will be a potluck lunch with a big group of old family friends.  It's become an annual tradition here and last year was my first year to partake in the Thanksgiving festivities (although I've attended the same New Year's festivities multiple times).  It's a great opportunity to see old friends that I knew growing up but who I never see anymore as they've now moved out of state.  We usually end up playing crazy games like Bohnanza, eating cookies, and catching up on funny stories.  I then have a dinner invitation at my parents' house where we're inviting just one other family friend over to have some delicious shabu shabu!  I'm particularly excited about the shabu shabu as this will be the first time I've had it this year!  I fully plan on taking advantage of the steam from the pot for a mini facial as I have an event-filled night of Black Friday bargain hunting at the outlet and mall.  And don't worry, I will be tweeting all night!  Who else is excited?!

Oh, and one more random fact, I never had a pie growing up until I went to college.  It just wasn't in my mom's Chinese food repertoire and you certainly never see pie in the dessert section of Chinese restaurants.  So think of me and all the other deprived Chinese kids out there when you're enjoying your pie tonight!  ^_^

The Deal Catcher

Forever 21 Silk Tuxedo Shirt - XS
Ann Taylor Moody Jaguar Silk Skirt - 00P
Express Patent Leather Belt - S
Guess Bow-Tie Pumps - 5.5 (similar here)

I can't resist a good deal.  Remember when I mentioned that I fell victim to Ann Taylor's Friends & Family sale where you could stack a 30% coupon code on top of existing sale items?  Well, the skirt above is one of the lucky finds!  I can't even believe this skirt was originally $118.  After all the discounts, it was only $31.  Much more reasonable and I really love the pattern.  It's supposed to be a jaguar pattern but somehow to me it looks like small flowers...  ^_^

As far as shopping deals go, one of the best shopping deals of the year is right around the corner!  So far, the best deals I've heard of so far are for the outlets.  Here's some of the current promotions that have caught my attention:
  • Ann Taylor - 50% off the entire store
  • LOFT - 40% off the entire store
  • Gap - 60% off the entire store
  • Guess - 30% off the entire store until 12pm noon
  • J. Crew - 40% off clearance until 8am
All stores at my outlet are opening at midnight on Black Friday and some are even opening at 10pm!  My current plans are to hit up the outlets for the 10pm opening.  I will be tweeting my entire Black Friday experience, so please follow me if you aren't already!  I will let you know of any deals I find for sure!  ^_^

[EDIT]: By request, I'm adding a few of the promotions I've seen for regular stores too:
  • Express - 40% off entire store until noon, 30% after noon
  • Bebe - 20% off entire store
  • LOFT - 40% off entire store - online use code ENJOY, free shipping on $125+
  • Gap - $10 knit tops, scarves, hats, gloves; $20 sweaters
  • Banana Republic - 40% off entire store until noon, 25% all weekend
I'll keep updating this post once I have more info!

Seeking Advice...

Banana Republic V-Neck Sweater - XS (similar here)
The Limited Cami - XS (similar here)
Charlotte Russe Belt - S (similar here)
Charlotte Russe Everyday Skinny Jeans - 0S
Aldo Withey Pumps - 5
Charlotte Russe Flower Statement Necklace

My mirror played tricks on me this morning.  I had recently bought these jeans a few weeks ago despite being concerned about the extra length in the legs.  But, I had figured at the time that I could fit the jeans over my legs and thus pull off an elongated leg look.  Not to mention the fact that I really loved the whiskering detail in the front and the fact that my butt looked really nice in the back.  Oh, how many jeans I've been conned into buying just cause it made my butt look good!  Let's not go there...

The outfit actually seemed to look ok when I checked the mirror this morning, but unfortunately these pictures are telling me otherwise.  Not only is the length a bit long, but I think the jeans are a bit big altogether.  What do you guys think?  I'm thinking at the very least I'll need to get these jeans hemmed, but maybe I should also zap them in the dryer?   Part of me actually enjoys the fact that they're a little looser actually...  maybe I can cuff them for a boyfriend jean look?  Agh, help me decide!  ^_^

Celeb Gossip Girl

hair's a little crazy but the wind was crazier!
Lulu*s Comeback Baby Light Grey Dress - S (similar here)
Charlotte Russe Crocheted Belt - S
Aldo Whitsey Pumps - 5
Target Necklace

My love of cognac makes a return.  Thanks to everyone who helped vote on which cognac jacket to add to my closet!  I have to admit that I was partial to the Express jacket myself and was glad that everyone confirmed the same one as well!!  There's nothing better than when my style choices are validated by my lovely readers.  ^_^

I spent most of my Sunday driving around town running errands.  A word to the wise:  don't go to the supermarket on the Sunday before Thanksgiving.  Everyone had their carts filled to the brim with Thanksgiving goodies -- turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, boxes of soda, beer.  Most of the time, they couldn't even see over their carts and were navigating the aisles with their heads stuck out to one side.  This is really not conducive to two-way traffic down shopping aisles, in case you're wondering.  And then here I come carrying a tiny basket with a couple yogurts and a banana.  Needless to say, I spent a nice chunk of time waiting to check out and I am now fully caught up on all of my celeb gossip.  But, if you're wondering what Suri and Shiloh play with in their free time, then I'm your girl.

Anyways, here's to a wonderful short work week and getting ready to get your eat on!  Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday.   ^_^
