#30x30 Challenge (Day 3): For The Love of Cognac

Banana Republic V-Neck Knit - XS
Belt taken from BCX Dress (shown here)
Forever 21 Ribbed Knit Pencil Skirt - XS
Charlotte Russe Flower Necklace (also shown here)
Steve Madden Intyce Boots - 5.5
Forever 21 Leaf Wrap Hinge Bracelet (also shown here)

I'm in love with the beautiful cognac color of these boots.  So much so that they've lured me into making two grave mistakes:
  1. Brown shoes and black pants / skirts don't mix.  Isn't there a rule that you should never pair brown shoes with black pants / skirts?
  2. I chose form over function.  I picked these boots as part of my 30 for 30 remix item count when instead I should have chosen a more practical pair of brown pumps. Boots don't always go with everything and these are going to be a challenge to mix in.
Regardless, fashion is not always about wise choices.  To me, the rich hue of cognac embodies the quintessential color of fall, and  I am more than happy to break all the fashion rules out there to wear these boots.

That being said, I think I need a cognac-colored jacket to go with these boots.  Although I'm on a shopping ban now for the challenge, it doesn't help to do a little window shopping.  Plus, it'll give me something to look forward to once this challenge is over!  Help me pick out a jacket! (Note: the poll does not work in a RSS reader.  Please go to the site and vote!)

Can't wait to see what you guys think!! Thanks for voting! ^_^

I used to think that black and brown didn't go together but then I saw so many pictures of ladies rocking black jeans and brown boots so now that's out the window :P

You look great today! I really love those boots.

Before reading your text I was thinking these boots are such a great color. It makes me want my very own pair. In terms of the jackets... I think I like the last one best. It's functional and versatile. - Katy

I think black and brown used to be a faux-pas, but now is okay. I'm slowly easing my way into mixing them though. I have a pair of cognac boots and intend to wear them with black during this challenge. Love the skirt!

i have these boots, too, and they definitely go with black. i'm not against mixing black and brown, but the boots are cognac--practically a dark orange, so i think they go with just about anything :)

Cognac and black is one of my favorite combos! I love this! It seems unexpected, I think.

Oooh I love the skirt! Those horizontal lines really add a nice touch and change it from being a plain black pencil skirt. I totally need a skirt like that! And cute necklace! When I browse CR I notice they have really good accessories.

I mix brown and blacks all the time. I think they look so good together, especially paired in varying shades. So I say, screw the rule! =P

Of the 3, I really like the Express jacket. The style and color are just so pretty.

I love cognac, and I love that you are doing this challenge!!! only 27 days to go;)

I love the boots! And I definitely think cognac should be counted as a "neutral" color that goes with everything!

I love that pencil skirt with the belt, you make black and beige look good together. I also voted for the Express jacket mainly because I actually do OWN that exact jacket and I LOVE it. I bought it in an XS and it fits really nicely through the waist, and the quilted detailing and stretchy panels are great.

Your 3rd outfit looks great, keep up the great work on the rest of the 30x30 challenge :]
