Review: MAC Pro Longwear Foundation

Hey guys!  So I went to MAC and got a sample of their new Pro Longwear Foundation.

Comparison pics of foundation from 7am to 5:30pm.  Long-wearing test passed!

Coloring: I'm normally a NC25 in MAC's Studio Fix Fluid, but for the Pro Longwear foundation I had to go a shade lighter - NC20.  Upon initial application, the color seemed to match my skin exactly, but after about 30 minutes, I noticed that it had oxidized and turned a darker shade of orange.  While it's not noticeable on camera or in pictures, it is very noticeable in person.  It is something to keep in mind if you're looking for photography makeup only as the color does photograph nicely.

Application:  The foundation was in the middle of the road as far as thickness.  It wasn't nearly as thick as Studio Fix Fluid but definitely thicker than the Face and Body lotions.  It's comparable to the MAC Mineralize Satinfinish foundation as far as thickness goes.  I applied the foundation with a Sonia Kashuk Foundation Brush.  The foundation applied very smoothly and wasn't very hard to blend into my skin.  I found that the foundation did set rather quickly, so I worked in small sections rather than my entire face at once.

Finish:  The finish was amazing.  I loved how dewy it looked and it felt very light on top of my skin.  I felt like my skin could still breathe and I didn't feel like I needed to worry my pores being clogged.  The finish wasn't quite as sheer as the Mineralize Satinfinish but definitely not as matte as the Studio Fix Fluid.  However, I did notice that after an hour or so, you could see the foundation on top of my skin even though I couldn't feel it on my skin personally.  I felt like it made my skin actually look worse than it actually is as it settled into my fine lines and pores.  I primed first with Stila Hydrating Primer, but it's possible that maybe a primer focusing on minimizing pores would have worked better with this foundation.

Longwearing:  This foundation lived up to its claim.  My foundation did not budge one bit throughout the entire day and my face did not feel greasy or oily at all.  I did not blot my face at all during the daytime as I simply didn't feel the need to.  Props to this foundation for it's excellent staying power!

FINAL VERDICT:  B-
  • Pros:
    • excellent long-wearing power!!
    • great dewy finish
    • good coverage
    • easy to work with and blend
    • lightweight - medium weight
  • Cons:
    • oxidized and turned orange
    • cakey look after setting
Unfortunately I will not be buying a full-size bottle of the MAC Pro Longwear Foundation.  Close, but no cigar on this foundation!

Hope this review helps!

Helpful review with the pros and cons. This was my first, only, and last liquid foundation and I couldn't figure out why I didn't like it. Firstly I didn't know how to apply it, so it's informative to see you used a Sonia Kashuk brush (I just had fingers). Also now that I think back it certainly was cakey. Glad I'm not the only one who didn't love this. What a sad waste of $ : /

@PetiteAsianGirl I'm so glad my review was helpful! I had such high hopes for this foundation as well, but no dice. I have a sample of the Pro Longwear Concealer too that I'm trying out tomorrow. Let's hope that one works out better!
